GLOBAL SCHOOL PLAY DAY:
Classrooms at Olive will be participating in Global School Play Day, taking place on Wednesday, February 5th. Countries and schools from all over the world come together on this one day to celebrate the necessity of unstructured play in our students’ lives at school. Research shows that unstructured play has a positive influence on:
- physical and mental health
- language development
- problem-solving
- risk management
- independent learning skills
- academic skills
- classroom behavior
- healthy emotional attitudes
- better adjustment to school life
I encourage you to send a game to school with your child on February 5th. NO ELECTRONIC GAMES PLEASE! I will do my very best to ensure that the game is returned in the same fashion that it came to school. The game must fit inside your child’s backpack. For further information about Global School Play Day, visit http://www.globalschoolplayday.com/ or contact Shannon Watanuki, Advanced Learning Facilitator. Looking forward to a fun day!
Valentine’s Day
We will be having our Valentine’s Day party festivities in class during the afternoon of Wednesday, February 12th. Our room parents have spent time planning an hour of fun to celebrate this special day. Per district policy, no food/candy items may be a part of the class parties and are not to be sent home with students. Therefore, no food/candy should be attached to individual Valentine’s, and no treat bags containing food/candy may be sent home. Please find a class list below so that students may work on Valentine’s Day cards to share with classmates. Please make sure if your child chooses to share Valentine’s Day cards that he/she bring one for every student in our classroom. Thank you to our parent volunteers for planning a super, sweet Valentine’s Day party!

Exciting Valentine's Day Homework Below!
Your homework is to make a valentine box to hold your valentines!
Materials: Anything you would like.
(buttons, felt, paper, etc)
Size: No bigger than a shoe box
Your box will need to have a slit so the valentines can be dropped in.
Your name needs to be written big on the front or the top so children will know it is your box.
These can be brought to school on February 10th, 11th, or 12th.
Have fun and use your imagination!
